2023.11.22 03:30 darkyoruga Agencia de alquiler de autos

Hola compatriotas!
Gracias!

2023.11.22 01:55 Critical_Salt5021 On Pincer Theory and Cold War Competition: Hemispheric Defense

On Pincer Theory and Cold War Competition: Hemispheric Defense
Disclaimer: Nothing said here reflects the TNO team, their positions, or plans for future content. Everything in this post is reflective of my own professional and academic opinion.

U.S. Navy officers review a line of Brazilian PBY-5A amphibians with senior Brazilian naval aviators. (National Archives and Records Administration, 80-G-K-5258).

I. Introduction

Building off my post 2 months ago (I apologize for the delay!), we will return to the geopolitical situation of TNO from the perspective of the United States; in the world of TNO, stating that the United States is in a precarious position is an understatement. The New Order is coming to America's doorstep, whether it likes it or not.
Is this fear truly warranted in TNO? What did the Nazis or the Japanese, for that matter, want with Latin America, and how does this play into their grand strategy to contain the United States?

II. Hemispheric Defense

"The facts of location do not change. The significant of such facts changes with every shift in the means of communication, in routes of communication, in the technique of war, and in the centers of world power, and the full meaning of a given location can be obtained only by considering the specific area in relations to two systems of reference: a geographic system of reference from which we derive the facts of location, and a historical system of reference by which we evaluate those facts."
- Nicholas J. Spykman, America's Strategy in World Politics: The United States and the Balance of Power (1942)
The United States, once employing a form of offshore balancing with Britain checking the continental powers of Europe, is relegated to solely the Western Hemisphere in terms of power projection (with minor exceptions with Australia and New Zealand). While tensions may arise from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans over new maritime disputes and maneuvers, the new dominant powers of the New World Order will fight behind the maritime boundaries and attempt to pierce the seemingly impenetrable blue wall of the United States. Surrounded by daggers from both sides, the United States faces a threat unlike anything in its history.
Fully understanding the threat that the United States posed were it to rise again, the revolutionary state of Nazi Germany and the empire of Japan would seek to erode its power of projection; by confining the United States to solely North America, the Reich, and Imperial Japan can act freely without a liberal internationalist power seeking to impose or revert the gains they had made in the Second World War. Much like OTL, a series of propaganda campaigns, covert warfare, and geopolitical penetration into the heart of Latin America through the outer crescent of South America and the American Mediterranean conducted by the Axis powers will occur. We see this happening in the game, albeit in a flawed format that does not represent the coming changes in TNO.

III. The American Mediterranean

The American Mediterranean
One cannot discuss the Western Hemisphere in TNO without discussing the American Mediterranean. The great American Blue Wall will, for the first time in decades, experience the greatest concentration of focus by the United States by improving relations with not only its Caribbean and Latin American contacts but also through the development of its navy to conduct and bolster its activities alongside the placement of U.S. troops, air power, and more in their territories as permanent visitors. The close concentration of land near the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and a portion of the North Atlantic Ocean creates an effective, almost impenetrable wall. When discussing the projection of Germany into the American Mediterranean (who is the sole great power that can), it's important to understand what we mean by the previous sentence. Unlike Mearsheimer's concept of the stopping power of water (i.e., large bodies of water limit the military projection power of great powers), the American Mediterranean poses a different problem for the German hegemon. The physical land creates the conditions and constraints in the American Mediterranean, not the water itself. As the United States is geographically positioned to decline littoral access of these seas to another power, the constraint is not from the water itself. Germany can attempt a naval incursion into the American Mediterranean; it does not do so because it has no desire to conduct direct military intervention. Nazism is not an ideology that seeks to export and make other countries National Socialist. Supporting proxies and those that align with Germany as a geopolitical entity, on the other hand, is fair game and the objective.
However, the geographic presence of the United States, when attempting to support German interests, poses an issue when trying to impregnate the inner portions of Latin America. Land acts as a block in terms of access in both the littoral and the inner parts of a continent; it's incredibly difficult for the other countries to project inward into the land if a coastal/littoral power prevents access through a mixture of military capabilities involving land and sea forces, or if a country is landlocked. Outside of the United States, the position of the WIF, Puerto Rico, and other regional allies, like Cuba, create the basis for the Blue Wall. To put it simply, similar to how Taiwan is an aircraft carrier that can project into the Asian continent, East China Sea, and the South China Sea, the land in the American Mediterranean consists of many island aircraft carriers, and when combined, creates an impenetrable blue wall of American power.
There are issues with this, however. Trujillo's fascist Dominican Republic still exists. Malevolent and decent factions inside the Blue Wall that seek their own sovereignty still exist. All of these factors chip away against the stability of the American Blue Wall. While the former is what we'll focus on for the rest of this chapter, the latter poses a moral question to the player:
Do we uphold our U.S. interests in the name of Hemispheric defense at the expense of others who clamor for democracy, or is there another way we can have a more humane foreign policy in an era of Cold War competition?
Regardless, Trujillo poses the greatest threat to the blue wall. A genocidal fascist regime that explicitly seeks to impose its will on neighboring countries while simultaneously maintaining contacts and a port of entry into Latin America for Germany and Iberia. Were Trujillo to remain in power, the ramifications for the rest of the inner portion of the blue wall would be immense: greater support for fascists across Central America and the northern portion of South America, particularly in Colombia. Eliminating Trujillo is necessary and integral to supporting the stability of the American Mediterranean. However, this is not the last we'll see of Axis infiltration into the Americas.

IV. The Southern Crescent

South America
While the American Mediterranean covers the northern section of the Latin American continent, the Axis has no choice but to attempt a penetration into the lower half of Latin America. America's strength in both the Pacific side of Central America and the American Mediterranean forced Germany and Japan to look for other avenues of infiltration. Looking to the south, it can severely limit the United States's projection power into Africa and the lower Pacific. This option seems to be the safest bet for the Axis Powers; by infiltrating, promoting propaganda, and supporting factions in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, the Axis Powers stand a chance at penetrating the heart of South America. Uruguay, in this context, is the best option for Germany to conduct its geopolitical strategy as it creates not only a forward operation base for German influence operations but creates the road into the interior of the continent; Uruguay is the key to the River Plate Basin and the South Atlantic.
On the other hand, Japan has little love and fanfare amongst the countries on the Pacific front to effectively promote its interests outside of support for its faction in Colombia. Peru and Ecuador harbor long-standing anti-Japanese behaviors after promoting racism and deportation of ethnic Japanese citizens to the United States for internment. Influence operations in these countries would be limited, and with limited information on Chile, there needs to be more to determine the success of Japan's actions in Latin America.

V. To the Lands of Eurasia

Spykman, N. (1942)
"The United States must recognize once again, and permanently, that the power constellation in Europe and Asia is of everlasting concern to her, both in times of war and peace."
- Nicholas J. Spykman, Geography of the Peace (1944)
It is abundantly clear that while there are some existential efforts by the Germans and Japanese through Pincer Theory to reduce the influence of the United States, this analysis of hemispheric defense should not be taken or understood as an argument solely for hemispheric defense. No, Pincer Theory and the work of Spykman is one of Liberal Internationalism; the outside world WILL attempt to pierce our blue wall, our sphere of influence, and attempt to relegate us to solely the North American continent. We can prevent this. The United States, if stewarded by a decent player, can reverse this trend and bring the fight to the Axis abroad before they can limit our projection.
In the next essay, we will explore how the United States can bring the Pincer to those abroad and possibly play these great powers off one another to secure the Western Hemisphere and turn the tide of the Cold War for good.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Trying to find the exact location of this supposed satellite photo. Establishing some basics in case anyone else wants to join the search.
On October 1, 2010 someone shared the following image with the title: "Strange pentagon in Patagonia Argentina." :
https://preview.redd.it/3ehbv5xggyzb1.png?width=1181&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ea1452fa3059d57836d7f7d615c3e15d3764acf
The image description reads: "Satellite image of a strange pentagonal-shaped object captured in Patagonia (Argentina) on July 3, 2010"
The post has 3 comments from people requesting the longitude and latitude of the image, but no replies from OP.
I am from Argentina and I never heard of a giant pentagon on any mountain in this country (or other part of the world), so, as one of the comments in the original post says, I doubt it was on the ground. But in the end, who knows.
What I did and am still trying to do:
  • Reverse image search: I tried multiple times and with different search engines and got no results. This makes it difficult to know where the image originates and if it really refers to this area of the planet.
  • The date of the photo is supposedly July 3, 2010: I tried to look for records of the satellites that were passing over this area of the planet on that day but was unable to do so. Someone with more experience can definitely help on this point.
  • Outline of the mountains: I am also trying to find the location of the photo by trying to match the outline of the mountains (and the rivers) with google Maps. If the location indicated (Patagonia Argentina) is correct, and the fact that the mountains do not show too much vegetation then it is likely that the photo was taken on the east side of the Andes (less vegetation):
Approximate search area.

2023.10.13 11:07 iBrowse4chan-org City Entries Thread

Hello there! I decided to make an entire post based upon seeing city lore in the TNO Universe, and I thought... why let other other members in the TNO Community, find a city they want to add and maybe possibility let people make their own city entries. So I basically compiled all of the 7 Continents of Cities that had lore entry already in the TNO Mod. You can always suggest other cities that seem worth detailing, in your own opinions, and maybe try to make a entry base for the city of your choosing. This post is basically a thread of so... go creative, crazy or even schizo! (jk)

LIST OF TNO CITY ENTIRES [AS OF Ruin Patch v.1.5.0.a

AFRICA ENTRIES

ASIA ENTRIES

OCEANIA ENTRIES

EUROPEAN ENTRIES

SOUTH AMERICA ENTRIES

NORTH AMERICA ENTRIES

Areas lack of entries - Africa, The Middle East, Central Asia, Former USSR, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Central America, Caribbean.
This is just for anyone wanting to find a place or a country that has a lack of City entry lore, as a good general idea of what you want to creatively write. Who knows? Maybe even some of the TNO Devs might even see these. 😱😱😱
